Do not punish when they bite nails nor should you promise any incentive if they do not chew nails. Rather, shower them with praises when they successfully avoid nail biting for several days.

Children usually tend to bite nails during watching their favorite TV show. Keep some drawing books ready near their hands and ask them to color pictures while watching TV. This will distract their mind and the temptation to bite nails will go down.

Make some alternative arrangements like sugarless lollipops or carrot sticks that they can munch. Thus their mouth will remain busy and the urge to bite the nails will automatically go down at least for a brief period of time.
Apply some solution on the nails of your child which is bitter in taste. There is a colorless lacquer available in the market that can be used for this purpose. Alternatively, you can use lemon juice or bitter gourd juice. When they find that unpleasant taste as soon as they put the nails into the mouth they will start avoiding putting the fingers into the mouth.

Remedies that work for you may not work for others. So you have to find out for yourself which nail biting treatment is the most suitable one for you. The same thing is applicable for the nail biting cures for your child too. If the cause of the nail biting habit is some underlying stress, then efforts have to be made to reduce the tension and anxiety.

40. GARLIC AND BLOOD PRESSURE
While much more research is needed to understand how garlic reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, eating garlic raw, cooking it and adding it to foods or taking garlic supplements may be beneficial for those with hypertension or who are at risk of getting it. Garlic helps to lower cholesterol levels which is important, because high levels of cholesterol contribute to plaque buildup along the blood vessel walls and this makes the arteries hard and narrow. Too much buildup leads to a condition called atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease that raises blood pressure. Garlic’s cholesterol-lowering action, may help slow the progression of atherosclerosis and slightly lower blood pressure, reports the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

DOSAGE
Garlic also contains antioxidants that may destroy free radicals that contribute to many conditions including heart disease. Garlic also appears to inhibit the blood from clotting; allowing your blood to flow more easily through the blood vessels. Garlic is considered an alternative remedy so it is not fully regulated when it comes to its medicinal use. This means that the amount and quality of garlic in products vary greatly and since the effects of garlic are not fully understood, there is no known specific dose that lowers blood pressure in all patients. If you decide to try garlic the University of Maryland Medical Center, recommends daily 2 to 4 g of fresh, minced garlic clove; 600 to 1,200 mg daily if using aged garlic extract; two 200 mg tablets three times a day if using freeze-dried garlic; 4 mL daily of fluid garlic extract; 20 mL daily of garlic tincture or 0.03 to 0.12 mL three times daily if using garlic oil.

41. Home remedies for Constipation in child

Often, simple changes in diet and routine help relieve constipation in children:

A high-fiber diet. A diet rich in fiber can help your child’s body form soft, bulky stool. The recommended intake for dietary fiber is 14 grams for every 1,000 calories in your child’s diet. For younger children, this translates to an intake of about 20 grams of dietary fiber a day. For adolescent girls and young women, it’s 29 grams a day, and for adolescent boys and young men, it’s 38 grams a day.

Offer your child high-fiber foods, such as beans, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. But start slowly, adding just several grams of fiber a day over several weeks to reduce the amount of gas and bloating that can occur in someone who’s not used to consuming high-fiber foods.

Adequate fluids. Water and other fluids will help soften your child’s stool. Be wary of offering your child too much milk, however. For some children, excess milk contributes to constipation.

Adequate time for bowel movements. Encourage your child to sit on the toilet for five to 10 minutes within 30 minutes of each meal. Follow the routine every day, even during holidays and vacations.

Be supportive. Reward your child’s efforts, not results. Give children small rewards for trying to move their bowels. Possible rewards include stickers or a special book or game that’s only available after (or possibly during) toilet time. And don’t punish a child who has soiled his or her underwear.

49. Best Home Remedies for Vaginal Itching
Vagina is a very sensitive organ and it can easily become affected by factors that cause irritation, itching or even infections. These are best to be prevented because the vagina actually leads directly to the uterus and an infection can easily spread towards this organ also. Vaginal itching is often caused by bacterial infections or yeast infections. They can occur out of a variety of causes, some controllable and others not. Dryness caused by hormonal imbalances which are common during menopause can also irritate the vagina, as well as chemical substances contained in cosmetic products. It is not at all uncommon for the skin around the vagina or for the vaginal walls to become irritated and to provoke itching. In some cases, especially when the itching is caused by an infection, prescribed treatment with antibiotics might be needed. In other cases, itching might go away once the women use home remedies for vaginal itching.

It might sound too simple to be true, but one of the most effective vaginal itching home remedies is to maintain proper hygiene. Many women make foolish mistakes just because they are not properly informed. It is best to always wear underwear made of cotton and to change it on a daily basis. Bathing or showering daily is also recommended although the vagina has the ability to clean itself. This means that there is no need for douching or for using cosmetic products which might contain chemicals that trigger or worsen the irritation bump behind ear and the itching. Perfume free soap is recommended in order to avoid excessive drying of the skin which might be a cause of itching in itself. Wiping from front to back can also prevent bacterial infections because they reduce the possibility of bacteria to migrate from the anal region. A cold compress applied locally can provide immediate relief and is considered one of the fast acting home remedies for vaginal itching.

The vagina naturally contains some good bacteria. However, in women who often use antibiotics, these might be destroyed and the bad bacteria might outgrow them and cause infections. In order to prevent this from happening, women are advised to use one of the proven vaginal itching home remedies: yogurt. This balances the bacteria again and stops infections from occurring. Women who take antibiotics should consume yogurt on a regular basis. Supplements of lactobacillus acidophilus can also provide the same effect.

Sometimes simply avoiding irritant agents might prove better than usage of home remedies for vaginal itching. These can be found in mostly all cosmetic products from bubble bath to toilet paper, so products without fragrances are highly recommended. Exposure to heat and perspiration can also cause irritation. Women often complaining of itching should stay away from scented cosmetic products and should also avoid douching in order to not to interfere with good bacteria. Some over the counter creams might provide relief from the itching, but if this doesn’t subside, it might be necessary to go to the doctor for complete investigations.

57. Home Remedies for a Swollen Knee
PRICE is what you should remember when it comes to treating a swollen knee. PRICE stands for protection, rest, ice, compression, and elevation.

Protect – Wear a kneepad to prevent repetitive stress injury.

Rest – Keep the weight off your knees. If you need to move around invest in a pair of crutches to keep the weight off the joint.

Ice – Apply a cold or ice pack to your knee twice or thrice a day to reduce inflammation and pain. Always place a cloth or towel between your skin and the ice pack to protect the skin. Never use heat or a warm compress on a swollen knee as it will increase the inflammation.

Compression –Use an elastic bandage or knee brace to support the knee joint and provide compression. This will help decrease swelling and fluid buildup.

Elevate -Keep the knee elevated as often as you can. Prop a pillow under you leg so that the knee is higher than the heart. This encourages any excess fluid collected around the knee joint to drain faster.

Besides these five steps, other steps to reduce any swelling of the knee include: Regular exercise that helps in reducing weight thus preventing injury of the muscles and joints. If you are overweight or have suffered from joint pain and inflammation, ease into an exercise routine slowly. Opt for joint-friendly exercises such as swimming and aqua aerobics rather than running and cycling. Massage is an excellent way to reduce pain and inflammation. Always inform the masseur or therapist about any injury or weakness before hand. Do not smoke as smoking can slow down or impair the healing process. A healthy diet can make a huge difference to an already swollen knee. Eating a balanced diet helps reduce obesity, decreases pressure on the joints and improves overall mobility and flexibility of the body. Include foods rich in vitamin C such as berries and citrus fruits as these help increase the production of collagen in the body. Collagen is an important component of bones and cartilages and can prevent pain and swelling as well as improve the healing process. Foods rich in vitamin B such as soy, lean meat, eggs, whole grain cereals and fish can help reduce pain and swelling of the joints as well.An increase in vitamin D rich foods such as fortified cereals and dairy products have proven to help prevent the onset of degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis.A high sodium diet may increase swelling and inflammation of the joints. Research also indicates that omega-3 fatty acids found in foods such as walnuts and oily fish help reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process. If the swelling does not reduce after 72 hours or the pain increases, contact your doctor at the earliest.

58. Choosing a healthy diet for pregnant women
It has often been said that a pregnant woman should be eating for two.

While it is important to provide the proper nutrition for both you and your baby, the above statement is not necessarily correct. Choosing the correct diet for pregnant women is vital for the long term health of both you and your baby.

According to the American Dietetic Association (ADA), pregnant women should be consuming an average of 2500-2700 calories per day, or about 300 calories more per day then when they’re not pregnant. Pregnant women who plan to breastfeed average slightly more per day. When choosing the proper diet for pregnant women, the above goal can easily be achieved while providing your baby with the nutrients necessary for a healthy, full-term pregnancy.

A well balanced diet for pregnant women should include all of the basic food groups: meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables. Fat and carbohydrates are also important ingredients for any balanced diet for pregnant women, and also provides the energy necessary to get through each day.A 55-35-10 split is highly recommended for a healthy diet for pregnant women according to Dr. Phillip Owen, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology in the U.K. He recommends that 55 percent of calories per day should come from the carbohydrate group (bread, pastas, rice, corn, potatoes), 35 percent of calories per day should come from fat, mainly found in butter, oils and dairy products, and 10 percent calories per day should come from protein, found in meat, eggs, various beans and dairy products.“You are what you eat” is also a very important statement when considering the proper diet for pregnant women. For instance, drinking large amounts of coffee will increase caffeine intake, which can raise the heart rate of your baby.Any proper diet for pregnant women should always include lots of water. Water helps to carry the nutrients from the food you eat to your baby, and in turn it helps to decease constipation and any bladder related infections. Six 8-ounce glasses of water per day is recommended to ensure proper transportation of all vital nutrients.Pregnant women are encouraged to consult their physician to ensure that they are following the proper diet for pregnant women, and to ensure the health and well being of their baby.

Swelling of the tongue can be caused by a variety of medical conditions such as from an allergy, salivary gland problems, environmental factors, prior trauma or surgery and also tongue piercings. Having a swollen tongue can be a very risky situation because it can eventually lead to swelling of the throat and cut off air supply, putting you at risk for respiratory complications. Although medications are out on the market to relieve the swelling and pain in the tongue, there are also alternative medicines you can use as well. If you are looking into natural remedies to get rid of your swollen tongue then here are some of the best alternative treatments available.
– Ice cubes are one of the best alternative treatments available to help ease the swelling on your tongue. All you need to do is get an ice cube and break it into a few pieces so that you can easily fit it into your mouth and cheek area. Place a piece under the tongue and then a piece on each side of the tongue and let it dissolve in your mouth. You should repeat the ice therapy every couple of hours if needed until the pain and swelling subsides. Ice is one of the best natural remedies for swelling and it is also free which is always nice.

– Eating some celery sticks is also a great natural way to relieve swelling and the pain in your tongue, and it is healthy too. Celery is a great anti-inflammatory product because it is high in water content which can increase your salivary gland production. Celery is also known to help relax the tongue which can help get rid of the pain or awkward sensations in the mouth caused by the swelling. Celery is a great natural remedy partially because it is so cheap since you can get about 20 of them at the grocery store .

– Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory product for many medical conditions including swollen tongue and lymph nodes. You can add some of this product to a glass of water and then swish it around in your mouth for about three minutes to help ease the swelling. Turmeric is a natural remedy that can really ease the swelling of the tongue and also provide pain relief as well. You can buy turmeric in a number of stores including grocery stores and health food stores .

– If you have a swollen tongue then you should also think about switching to soft foods during this time to let your tongue heal. When your tongue is swollen it might become difficult to chew foods that are tough or coarse, and this can worsen the swelling and irritate the area even more. One way to naturally relieve the swelling of your tongue is just to avoid foods that require a lot of chewing, and stick to items such as mashed potatoes, yogurt, ice cream and creamy products. If you are eating hard foods or chewy foods then it is possible that the swelling will either increase or stay the same due to the continued irritation of the area, so just avoid such foods as much as possible.

– Washing your mouth out with salt and warm water is also a great alternative to medication if you have a swollen tongue. All you need to do is use about two tablespoons of salt in an eight-ounce glass of warm water and swish it around for about two minutes. You should do this at least three times a day and after every meal to help cleanse the mouth of germs and irritants. This is a natural way to relieve pain and swelling of the tongue and throat area. The salt water rinse is also good because it will only cost you a couple of dollars at the grocery store for a container of salt.

These are just some of the most common ways you can treat your swollen tongue at home and without the use of anti-inflammatory medications or pain medications. As with all medical conditions or situations you should seek the advice of a medical professional before proceeding with any natural treatments. Sometimes swelling of the tongue can be a very serious warning sign of another medical problem and you should seek medical treatment immediately.

69. Sebaceous Cyst Home Treatment
Sebaceous cysts are sac cysts or bumps that typically occur just underneath the skin. These cysts often come about due to the blocking of the sebaceous gland by a protein called keratin, which occurs naturally in the body. Thankfully there are a number of different sebaceous cyst home treatment methods that can help analyze the situation also provide methods of coping and healing. In most cases, sebaceous cysts contain an odorous pasty substance, and they may occur anywhere in the body with the exception of the soles of the feet and the palms.

Many of the smaller sebaceous cysts you will encounter tend to disappear on their own even without any form of treatment. While more severe cases will require the use of corticosteroids and/or antibiotics in order to prevent inflammation and infection, minor cases will respond favorably to simple sebaceous cyst home treatment procedures. Your first course of action should be to apply a warm compress directly on the affected area. Alternately, you may also use a heating pad, and like the warm compress, apply it to the affected area for several minutes.

The heat from the warm compress or heating pad will serve to soften the hardened sebum content of the cyst, causing it to be more readily absorbed by the body. As a result, cyst will shrink and eventually heal without further treatment necessary and leave minimal scarring on the affected area.

An important part of the method of home treatment is proper hygiene. It is always beneficial to keep the skin clean at all times, but this is particularly important when dealing with sebaceous cysts. For this purpose, you may opt to use an antibacterial soap as part of your everyday skin care regimen. Essentially, good hygiene is the key to preventing the formation of these sebaceous cysts. Keeping the body clean and away from any infections and similar dirty items through daily showers involving antibacterial soap will help to prevent a buildup of bacteria in the affected areas. There are also a number of oral antibiotics that can be taken to allow the body to produce its own chemicals to help fight back the cysts and assist in a prompt recovery and decrease in the symptoms associated.

Diligence is the key to preventing and also aiding in the healing process of these cysts and any further problems can be fixed. Tea tree oil can also be an effective sebaceous cyst home treatment remedy. This oil has known antiseptic properties, and it can help drain the cyst, and therefore hasten the healing process. You may also get similarly favorable results by substituting orange oil for tea tree oil. Whilst not a home treatment, surgical excision of the sebaceous cyst is a relatively simple procedure that completely removes the sac, though it is only recommended if completely necessary. The use of home treatments is already enough to facilitate health and recovery in a speedy process and the use of a surgeon is purely for any additional long recurring problems.
